Color week — Green Monday

Leya over at Curious Bird is hosting Color Week. Each day there is a new color and you take photos that involve that color. What a fun experiment! I'm always amazed and how differently our own spaces can seem if you peer through the eyes of a project. You discover things looked completely different than you previously remembered.

Today is green. So here is my contribution to Green Monday.

Isn't it funny what memories stick around?

Three years ago, I found myself stuck behind a loom at 2 o'clock in the morning. Trapped in the textiles studio in the fine arts building at my college, I was slowly, yarn-by-yarn, finishing my final project for my first textiles class—a hand dyed scarf. Needless to say, my first (and last) attempt at loomwork ended in a miserable looking scarf. I gave it to my Mom. It spent a few months as a table runner (because no one in their right mind would be seen out in public with it wrapped around their neck). And has since found it's permanent home somewhere deep in the basement of my parent's home.

But this story isn't about my scarf.

It's about my dear friend, Meagan's scarf. See, she was right there beside me at 2am. And while we were both cussing the fact that we were tethered to these ancient wooden looms, there was at least a dose of style in Meagan's scarf. See, her scarf was black with interspersings of teal and red. Now Meagan has always been way ahead of the curve in the style department. I was confused by her choice of teal and red. I didn't see the appeal. But she loved it, and the fact that the combination made her so happy proved to me it must be stylish.

Flash forward to recent days, where Meagan's forward color style has reared it's beautiful head. I'm currently fascinated with teal and red. What I wear. What I see. What I make. It all has a recent dose of teal and red. I love it. It's vibrant, with a dash of retro.

So to spread my current color love, here are some photos of recent teal and red inspiration in my space. Hopefully this will inspire you to bring a little teal and red to your world.

Mother's Day Gifts

I made a declaration this year that at least some portion of all the gifts I give in 2008 are going to be handmade by me. So far, so good! April, May, and June are just jam-packed with birthdays and holidays, so I feel like all I do on the weekends is craft for gifts! That's okay, because few things make me happier than to see a loved-one of mine open up and handmade gift. Mother's Day is quickly approached, and even more quickly for those of us that have to ship gifts (my mother-in-law lives in another country). Last weekend, I gathered together my mother-in-law's gift. A coffee gift set. There isn't as much handmade in this gift as I'd like—only a coffee cozy—but I still think the gift is a great collection!

For my dear, dear Mama, who taught me to sew long ago, I gathered up some fabric and notions for her. Joann's had a sale last week on pre-packaged fat quarters! Above all, my Mama is a quilter, and what quilter doesn't love two stacks of beautifully coordinated fabric? A stylish pouch to hold it all and a pincushion from Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts makes a pretty nice group.

A guy, a girl and a hefty dose of thinking outside the box.

Let me introduce myself.

I'm Cassie, 1/2 of the creative behind mightyfine design
. I'm a graphic designer by day and chronic crafter by night. I enjoy sewing, papercrafts, jewelrymaking, and pretty much anything that has pretty colors and designs. I love exploring anything that tickles my creative side and will be sharing that with you here in this blog.

My husband, Craig, who you may see in this blog every now and again, is the incredibly talented counterpart to my craze. He loves writing, illustration and comic arts. Most frequently, you'll see his contributions with ideas and photos, and the occasional crafty piece of his own. But mostly, he's the one that makes what I do look good. What can I say? I'm blessed.

Together, we have a lot of fun in life and in business, and I can't wait to share that with you. Our motto is that two heads really are better than one.

Right now, we are gearing up for the grand opening of our Etsy shop where we will carry a little bit of everything! From baby and toddler lounge sets to custom designed moving announcements. Once we have it up and running, take a spin around and please send us your feedback.
